Heritage of Tobacco

The rolling fields and red clay soil of Caswell County provided the perfect conditions for tobacco to be raised for decades in this area of North Carolina. The large tobacco leaf quilt block displayed on the Piedmont Triad Visitor Center serves as a reminder to the area’s heritage and reliance on agriculture. As this crop has now faded into the past, small farms still occupy this fertile county. From organic blueberries and produce, to free range chickens yielding high quality healthier eggs, to a large number of cow calf operations, this agriculture based economy continues to flourish.

“Best welcome center around. It's our usual stop if we travel 29 South toward Greensboro. Plenty of large vehicle parking for RVs and a nice pet walk area. They also have a visitor info building, offering free coffee provided by a couple of knowledgeable ladies who can answer any question you have about the area.”
